The Volunteer Center, Jan Mar Trophy and Home Town Media Group have joined together to recognize outstanding volunteers with a new initiative in Westchester called “Someone Special.”
Each month, The Volunteer Center selects up to five nominated volunteers to receive the “Someone Special” award. An article highlighting their volunteer efforts is put in their local paper courtesy of Home Town Media Group along with their photo. In addition, they will receive an engraved plaque from Mario Scarano, owner of Jan Mar Trophy. When speaking about the “Someone Special” volunteer program, Mario says “There's no better way of giving back to our community than by recognizing the very special people who volunteer and give so much of themselves to help others.”
Sister Beth Dowd, Executive Director of “Songcatchers,” nominated two of her high school volunteer music instructors. She says a nomination “shows you’re proud of your volunteers, and it is very simple to apply.”
To be nominated, volunteers must live, work or volunteer in one of the following Home Town Media districts:
- New Rochelle
- Rye
- Eastchester
- Bronxville
- Tuckahoe
- Mamaroneck
- Larchmont
- Harrison
- Purchase
The nominator is responsible for picking up the plaque at Jan Mar Trophy, 524 North Avenue, New Rochelle, 10808 (914-576-1365).
