The Volunteer Center would like to thank all the volunteers and supporters who helped us with five projects at six sites on October 24th, 2009.
Special thanks also to The Journal News and News 12 for covering Make A Difference Day.
These projects sponsored by The Volunteer Center of United Way and almost completely organized by volunteers had a wonderful impact on members of the community.
Care Packages For Wounded Soldiers
Hundreds of volunteers donated items for wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. On October 24th, over 85 volunteers helped assemble the care packages with toiletries, games, and goodies.
Creation of a Tranquility Garden
The VA Hospital in Montrose had volunteers mulching and planting on Saturday. They were able to build a beautiful garden before the sky opened up and watered it!
Decorate a room for a Halloween Party
A group of volunteers prepared the VA Hospital for a fall party for the patients. These volunteers hung and strung all morning to make the party special for these veterans.
Leadership Training for Disadvantaged Young Women
Volunteers worked with girls from Giolai, a mentoring and life skills program, in this one-day event to encourage leadership, volunteerism, healthy relationships, and more.
Food Drives and Sorting
Volunteers worked in partnership with the Westchester Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless to hold numerous food drives to benefit Grace Church Community Center, Our Lady of the Rosary food pantry, the VA Hospital, and A Different Start. On Saturday volunteers sorted and checked hundreds of boxes of food.
Special Thanks to all our donors!
