“We make a living by what we get,
we make a life by what we give.” - Winston Churchill
Today’s working professional is trying to do it all - be a good employee, spouse, father/mother, and volunteer. In fact, some reports even show that working people volunteer at a higher rate than non-working people their same age (CNCS).
The Volunteer Center may not have all of your work-life balance solutions, but we can offer a few insights into how to fit volunteerism into what you already do.
Tips:
- You can not do it all. Don’t waste time on guilt. Sign up for our monthly e-newsletter listing one-day or short-term volunteer opportunities.
- Spend time prioritizing. Stop spinning your wheels. The Volunteer Center offers an amazing course called Leadership Westchester, which will help you learn about Westchester and focus your efforts on issues that truly matter to you.
- Use your expertise for higher impact. Serve on a Board of Directors or do pro-bono consulting for a nonprofit.
- Volunteer with your family. Combine quality family time with making a difference.
- Get your company involved. Work with our Corporate Programs Department to build or enhance your employee volunteer program.
